Entrada High School’s Teacher of the Year!

It is with deep pride that we announce Elizabeth “Izzy” Gustafson has been selected by both students and staff at Entrada Adult High School as our Teacher of the Year.

At Entrada, we serve students whose educational journeys have often been interrupted by hardship—both inside and outside the classroom. Many of our students carry challenges that extend far beyond academics, and too often, beyond what can be easily understood. In this space, the role of a teacher is not simply to instruct, but to reach, to steady, and to believe. Izzy does all of this—exceptionally.

Izzy is always prepared, intentional, and fully present for her students. Her classroom is engaging, dynamic, and purposeful. Students frequently ask which classes she is teaching when planning their schedules, hoping it aligns with what they still need to graduate. That level of trust and enthusiasm reflects the meaningful connections she builds and the impact she has.

What truly sets Izzy apart is her ability to make students feel safe, valued, and genuinely cared for. She meets students where they are, without lowering expectations, and creates an environment where they feel seen and capable of success. She is fun and funny, warm and patient, yet unwavering in her belief that her students can—and will—rise to the challenge. In her classroom, students don’t just learn content; they rediscover confidence.

Our students describe her best:

“Coach G really connects with you during the short time you spend with her. Every day is something new, and it never seems to be a bad class day when you’re with her.”

“I really enjoyed being in Izzy’s class. She really inspired me and made me happy to be here.”

“The most understanding teacher I’ve ever met.”

“Coach G is an amazing teacher. She’s super enthusiastic, and that helped me learn so much.”

“I love her bubbly personality. She makes class fun and she is always willing to help.”

Izzy’s impact cannot be measured solely by lessons taught or credits earned. It is found in the students who show up when they once struggled to, who persist when quitting once felt inevitable, and who begin to believe in themselves again. Entrada Adult High School—and the lives of our students—are profoundly better because of her.

Izzy, thank you for your heart, your dedication, and the extraordinary way you serve our community.
